Mayor Mike Rama sings Carole King’s You’ve Got a Friend to the whole SDO Canlaon delegation, and with his innate friendliness and sweet impulse, makes a little but meaningful revision.
“You’ve got a friend in me, Canlaon”
With that spur-of-the-moment addition to the original lyrics of the song comes a heartfelt declaration that as head of the host city of CVIRAA 2024, Mayor Mike Rama will be with SDO Canlaon from the very start until the end of this activity to welcome and accommodate the delegation.
Given how busy he is with everything that needs attending, it is understandable how little time he can spare to visit each billeting quarter of all the participating schools’ divisions in the meet. Each billeting quarter is having its Welcome Dinner simultaneously, and the city mayor is targeting to be able to show up at all of the host schools.
Don Vicente Rama Memorial Elementary School’s Welcome Dinner for SDO Canlaon delegation is briefly graced with Mayor Mike’s presence. However, no matter how short the time, that does not lessen the gravity of the impact of his presence at the event.
He starts by casually saying hello to the crowd, establishing a very friendly atmosphere, to which SDO Canlaon responds warmly. In his willingness to provide every help, he even announces a direct cellphone number that everybody can reach in case of emergency or need of immediate assistance. Mayor Mike Rama also shares that our host school, DVRMES, is actually his alma mater where he graduated as Class Valedictorian.
The highlight of his visit is his heartwarming rendition of the song You’ve Got a Friend, to which everybody sings along to. The resonating voices of the whole crowd in the hall singing along to Mayor Mike is a touching experience. Through it, one can see the beauty of genuine leadership and hospitability, and the manifestation of productive collaboration in times like this when we are all set together aiming for victory.
SDO Canlaon is and will always be a friend to Mayor Mike Rama and Cebu City, too.
SDO Canlaon City will be forever grateful, especially the athletes who in the course of their journey as sports enthusiasts, were able to listen and see how Mayor Rama inspires and gives prime importance to friendship, camaraderie, and personality development – things that a responsible athlete manifest.
